His humbler origins have given him a deep dislike of manual labour and since he spent the early years of his life as illiterate he loves his ability to read so enjoys showing off his scholarly knowledge and enjoys a good debate.
Background:
He was born in Mutsu, a son of a farmer however he got bored of that life and at the ages of 15 he joined an imperial army to crush a small rebellion. His commander recognised his talent and promoted him above normal rank for someone his of his age and birth. However this commander died before they reached the rebel base. The replacement officer was inept and the army suffered a series of reverses until they were surprised one evening by an ambush and were nearly wiped put. However Saku survived the intial panic and the remaining men rally to him as the highest ranking officer left. With just over 200 spearmen left they manage to escape. During the time of mentorship of the first commander he become literate and appears to be of a better class then he really was. He leads his men to join the new army sent to crush the rebels and receives high praise from the new commander. He then recieves a high rank and this time they crush the rebellion. The army disband but Saku retains 500 men and they became his core retainers. Its at this point he takes the surname Oukan which means crown as he says (and does believe but others think its a dream or made up to help him realise his ambition) that an angel told him to take the name and to restore order to Japan. This starts off his titianic struggle and gives him a certainly legality like in China and 'Heavens Mendate'. He also created a banner for himself which was a wolf howling at a cross and its on the pavises surrounding his tent and on the cloak he is never seen without.
