These troops are for officers and daimyo to add numbers to their personal armies. These can be used in small plotlines, and large scale battles.
The numbers allowed to be purchased at a time reflect this.
Tier 1 Troops (Available to everyone)
Ashigaru Spearmen – 100 gold for 100 troops.
Ashigaru Spearmen are lifted from the laypeople and farmers. Given spears and enough training to hold a line, every good daimyo has some of these men in an army.
Ashigaru Archers – 150 gold for 100 troops
While not as dependable as their Samurai counterparts, Ashigaru Archers can still rain arrows upon your enemy with reliable accuracy.
Light Cavalry – 200 gold for 100 troops
Light Cavalry can be used as a screening force and as scouts and that’s what they perform as best. In a pinch, they can act as shock-troops, heading a charge into enemy lines.
Light Samurai Swordsmen – 150 gold for 100 troops
Light Samurai swordsmen are the perfect unit for countering spear units. If they can get inside the point, the fight is pretty much over for the spear user. Though as they wear very little armour, they don't have much protection from arrows or cavalry units.
Tier 2 Troops (200 Fame)
Samurai Spearmen – 200 gold for 100 troops
Experienced line-troops, Samurai Spearmen represent the backbone of any good army. A thick line of Samurai Spearmen make even the most experienced cavalryman pause.
Samurai Archers – 250 gold for 100 troops
Practicing the art of kyudo and wielding dangerous yumi bows, Samurai Archers promise to outrange any soldier on the field.
Samurai Swordsmen – 250 gold for 100 troops
Being trained in kenjutsu, and carrying both a katana and wakizashi, Samurai Swordsmen are tough reliable soldiers that can really help when assaulting a castle.
Samurai Cavalry – 300 gold for 100 troops
Samurai Cavalry are experienced horsemen, acting as the shock troops of an army. A charge of Samurai Cavalry is not something to be taken lightly.
Samurai Horse Archers – 350 gold for 100 troops
Hearkening back to the code of kyuba no michi, the way of the horse and bow, Samurai Horse Archers are perfect for hit-and-run attacks and quick ambushes.
Ashigaru Arquebusiers – 450 gold for 100 troops
Using imported and Japanese-made teppo, Ashigaru Arquebusiers carry a dangerous, new technology in their hands. Careful for the rain; wet powder doesn’t ignite.
Tier 3 Troops (250 Fame)
Elite Samurai Spearmen – 300 gold for 100 troops
The most experienced of the Samurai Spearmen, these troops hold against nearly any cavalry charge and demolish lesser infantry.
Elite Samurai Archers – 350 gold for 100 troops
The most experienced of the Samurai Archers, Elite Samurai Archers rain down arrows with pinpoint accuracy, volley after volley.
Elite Samurai Swordsmen – 350 gold for 100 troops
The best of all sword wielding troops, Elite Samurai Swordsmen have reached a pinnacle in their skills. They are extremely useful in an ambush, and can cause havoc among any unit less skilled than them.
Elite Samurai Cavalry – 400 gold for 100 troops
The elite of the elite, Elite Samurai Cavalry represent the highest military and social castes. A charge of these horsemen can break through nearly any line.
Elite Samurai Horse Archers – 450 gold for 100 troops
Hailing from age-old tradition, Elite Horse Archers speed through a battlefield, firing with deadly accuracy and running before the enemy can react.
Samurai Arqubusiers – 500 gold for 100 troops
These troops fire their teppo and hot lead sears through an enemy army. Line troops melt away, cavalry charges falter, and even the most well armed samurai falls just like any other.
Mercenary Troops (No fame requirement, but they are expensive.)
Sohei Warrior Monks - 2,000 gold for 100 troops
Fanatically religious warriors, each one can fight as though he were ten men. They will advance no matter their losses, and carrying their vicious looking naginatas, they strike fear in all but the bravest men who face them.
Spanish Tercios - 2,500 for 100 troops
The most disciplined musket troops available. Using their wheellock muskets, they can stop all in their path. Also carrying bandoliers, they are able to reload much faster, as the powder and bullet are in it's own cartridge.
The numbers allowed to be purchased at a time reflect this.
